A New Normal

There is a saying “The only thing that is normal is the knob on the washing machine”. We at Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity can testify that this is true. (In fact, we do have washers and dryers come in occasionally), however, it is equally true as we adjust to doing business during this time of the COVID pandemic.

During the spring, straight through to July 1, we operated not at all, or at best minimally.
So what does that mean to you the loyal habitat shopper and homeowner? We adjusted and here is the Big Picture.

You may have seen on our social media and website that we are no longer operating our ReStore in Jacksonville. We closed the operation on July 1. The Jacksonville ReStore is in fact a temporary closing while looking for a new location in Onslow County.
We will keep you posted on the ‘where and when’. The hopes of the new location to be in the fall of 2020. There will be a Grand Opening and plenty of invites.

Our Newport ReStore now has adjusted its hours to accommodate those who have a need or would like to shop after 4, Habitat will remain open until 6 pm on Fridays.

Recollecting my Mom always telling me to wash my hands, or to cover my nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing seems such common sense. But as a reminder for all of our employees and visitors, regardless of specific exposure risks, it is always a good practice to:

  • Frequently wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • When soap and running water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand rub with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands that are visibly soiled.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Practice good respiratory etiquette, including covering coughs and sneezes. (Remember your parents reminding you to cover your mouth?)
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home if sick.
  • Recognize personal risk factors. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), certain people, including older adults and those with underlying conditions such as heart or lung disease or diabetes, are at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19.

What we have not adjusted is our Mission. Everyone needs a place to call home. We continue to build our 100th home in Newport. Part of the Big Picture is a new home in Onslow County in 20-21, and a duplex in Newport in 2021. Volunteer today.

Thank you for your continued support. Without you, we could not do what we do to support the low-income families needing shelter.
